Fire department contains apartment blaze in Shawnee Sunday afternoon
Fire officials are investigating a blaze in a Shawnee apartment Sunday afternoon.
The Shawnee Fire Department received a call just before 3 p.m. of a fire at an apartment complex in the 11900 block of West 58th Terrace in Shawnee, Deputy Fire Chief Corey Sands. Firefighters found one resident on a third-floor balcony, who climbed down firefighters’ ladder unassisted, Sands said.
The resident was taken to The University of Kansas Hospital as a precaution to check for smoke inhalation, he said. The fire was contained to one apartment, and all other residents can return while firefighters put out “hot spots.”
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
