A fire broke out about 10 p.m. Saturday night in Crystal City forcing the evacuation of several businesses.

Electricity was cut off to the row of businesses, including the Crystal City Sports Pub, the Andalusia Hookah Bar & Lounge, and the Top Thai Restaurant.

Firefighters responded to the fire and found heavy smoke throughout the structure in the 500 block of 23rd St. S, according to an Arlington County Fire Department spokesperson. Fire was in the upper floors of the building.

Firefighters brought the two-alarm fire under control after several hours.

Jim Madden, co-owner and property owner of the Crystal City Sports Pub said there were about 120-130 people in the pub when smoke started entering the second-floor bar area.

Staff moved people to other parts of the bar and then Arlington Fire evacuated the entire business.

Madden said he was told the fire may have started in the top floor of the Top Thai Restaurant or the Andalusia Hookah Bar & Lounge..

Madden said the sports pub has an emergency generator, so they were able to open on time Sunday morning, but it was “a bit smoky.”

Arlington Fire reported no civilian or firefighter injuries. The cause and origin of the fire will remain under investigation.
