NEWARK, CA — Residents of Newark and surrounding areas will be able to get tested for coronavirus for free at Cedar Church this week. The no-cost testing was made available by Bay Area Community Health.

Testing will be available on Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pre-registration is recommended but walk-ups will be accepted. Testing will be administered at Cedar Church at 38325 Cedar Blvd in Newark.

All participants were asked to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. Organizers can be reached at 510-770-8040.

Bay Area public health officials are urging residents to get tested and continue social distancing practices as a holiday and winter-fueled surge continues to ravage the region, which is currently under Gov. Gavin Newsom's stay-at-home order.

There were 77,654 positive cases of coronavirus detected in Alameda County as of Wednesday, according to the county's case dashboard.
