Admission to all 47 South Carolina state parks is free on Friday, Nov. 27.

This deal is a part of the national #OptOutside initiative. The promotion, sponsored by REI, encourages everyone to spend time outdoors the day after Thanksgiving.

Many people flocked to Huntington Beach State Park on Black Friday, trading shopping for some sunshine and fresh air.

"It was very enticing that it was free entry, saves on the entry fee, but we get to see a new park that we haven't seen before," visitor Troy Henson said.

His wife, Dawn, said they had initially planned on going to Huntington Beach State Park on Saturday, but the free entry deal brought them out a day earlier.

They said it was refreshing to get outside after a day of eating at home on Thanksgiving. They added, it was also a good way to avoid the Black Friday mania.

"It's a nice way to get rid of the carbs, but a nice way to stay out of crowds, stay out of the stores. come out and enjoy nature and have a good time instead of spending money," Henson said.

While the free entry deal was the reason many people came out, many visitors at Huntington Beach on Friday also said they had no idea about the deal. They said the free admission was just a pleasant surprise.

Micah Crossley said he was visiting his parents along the Grand Strand this weekend. He said they had plans to come to Huntington Beach State Park, but he forgot his yearly pass to the SC State Parks System. He said he was glad to hear admission was free, so he didn't even end up needing his pass and was able to come out anyway with his family.

"We were happy to find out that they had a free day, so we still came out. I guess we'd be still sitting at my parents'," Crossley said.
