Fuel spill leads to hours-long shutdown of I-95 in Pompano Beach

Interstate 95 was completely shutdown in Pompano Beach during Monday morning’s rush hour after a tanker truck carrying fuel crashed near Atlantic Boulevard.

The truck ended up on its side shortly after 1 a.m., causing fuel to leak onto the highway. I-95 was closed to traffic between Atlantic Boulevard and Sample Road while Pompano Beach Fire Rescue crews handled the cleanup.

The southbound travel lanes reopened at around 10 a.m. The northbound lanes reopened about 90 minutes later.

No injuries were reported.
