LAURENS COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) -- Veterans at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center got a sweet surprise on Thursday.

Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia personally donated more than 3,000 boxes of cookies to the VA.

The cookies were bought this past cookie season through Cookies from Home, a program that makes sure military, first responders, and hospitals get a little sweetness in their lives.

Girl Scouts started the day early loading up boxes of cookies at the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia Macon office.

"I love the cookie program because I'm giving back to the community," says Cayleigh, who's part of Troop #60637. "Helping other people, it can make other people happy."

Maggie Reimer, multi-media communications manager with Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, said the Girl Scouts are excited to give back and say thank you through the Cookies from Home program.

"We wanted to make sure that the Girl Scouts were aware of all the hard work that goes into our military and our first responders and how we appreciate their hard work," she said.

Reimer also explained that Cookies from Home has been operating for several years, but first responders were added during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Military bases from all over the world get cookies from our area, and they, like I said, it's Cookies from Home, so they get a piece of home that comes right to them," she added.
