Haiti’s debt to France linked to large numbers of Haitian migrants at U.S. border
New York Times investigation reveals Haiti paid millions of dollars to France after it gained its independence, setting the Haitian economy back by billions of dollars. It also explains why tens of thousands of Haitian migrants have traveled to the U.S. border in order to seek refuge.
