SAN CLEMENTE, CA — Independence Day is just a week away, and the City of San Clemente is gearing up for its annual 4th of July celebration.

The celebration features a dazzling fireworks show from the city's Municipal Pier, as well as a flyover by the Condor Squadron, consisting of four AT-6 aircraft WWII trainers along coastal Orange County cities.

The fireworks show begins at 9 p.m., and the Condor Squadron will flyover San Clemente at 6 p.m.

In anticipation of the annual event, the city reminded residents that the end of Municipal Pier will be closed for preliminary preparation on Sunday, July 3 at noon.

On July 4 at 8 a.m., the entirety of the pier will be closed for the entire day. The Fisherman's Restaurant will be open and accessible to patrons, the city said.

The city also asked residents to keep the following in mind when preparing for July 4 festivities:

  • Overnight camping on San Clemente beaches is prohibited, as is overnight camping on Parque Del Mar.
  • Roping or blocking off portions of the beach for private use is not allowed.
  • Smoking and the consumption of alcohol is banned on all city beaches and park sites.
  • Drones are not permitted at the event without written permission from the city.
  • Dogs are not allowed on the coastal beach trail on July 4.
  • E-bikes are prohibited on the beach trail and beach at all times. This includes walking, pushing or riding regardless if the battery is being used.
  • Ocean access, including swimming, surfing and wading, will be closed 1,000 feet in both directions from the pier from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in order to protect residents from potential firework fallout.

The San Clemente Trolley will be in service from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., with the standard schedule running until 6 p.m. After 6 p.m., the trolley route will be adjusted to accommodate street closures in the Pier Bowl.

According to the city, closures will impact stops 1,3,4, 14, 15 and 16.

San Clemente Police Services will be restricting vehicle traffic between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. in the entire lower Pier Bowl area, adjacent to the pier.

Crossing guards will be located at the crosswalks of Avenida Del Mar and North Calle Seville, as well as Avenida Del Mar and Alameda Lane.

The 200-300 blocks of Avenida Victoria will be closed the day of the event from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. in order to maintain emergency access.
