MOSS POINT, Miss. (WLOX) - Moss Point Mayor Mario King went live on Facebook on Saturday to announce that a city curfew from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. will be implemented starting Sunday.

The curfew, however, needed to be approved by the Board of Alderman. The special called meeting did not have enough members present to vote on any issues. The issue will now be presented to the Jackson County Board of Supervisors to create a uniform policy across the county.

According to Alderman Wayne Lennep, the City of Moss Point had a curfew in place for minors that last from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The proposed curfew Mayor Mario King talks about in his Facebook live video has not been enacted yet. Alderman Lennep recommends that the curfew to prevent the spread of coronavirus be from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

King said that the curfew entails that residents out during the curfew without a legitimate reason could be penalized in the form of jail time— lasting up to six months— or receive a fine of $500. Those who have to work during the set curfew hours will not be punished; rather, residents who are traveling in city limits for recreation are those who could face a penalty.
