Police have provided an update on the deadly Walmart shooting which rattled the residents of Chesapeake, Virginia. After purchasing a handgun just hours before the attack, the shooter left an explanation on his phone. The "death note" mentions God, the Holy Spirit, and how he felt his co-workers were mocking him. "They gave me evil twisted grins, mocked me, and celebrated my downfall the last day. That's why they suffer the same fate as me," the note via CNN Business says.

"I wish I could have saved everyone from myself. My God forgive me for what I'm going to do," the note continues. Police also confirmed that Andre Bing used a 9mm weapon, which was legally purchased the morning of the Walmart shooting. A box of ammunition and a receipt were discovered during a police search of his home. The note also described how Bing "lost his dignity" when he believed his phone was hacked. "I was harassed by idiots with low intelligence and a lack of wisdom," he wrote.

The city released the note in a series of tweets but redacted the names of those mentioned by the shooter. After opening fire and killing six people at the store where he worked as an overnight supervisor, Bing fatally turned the gun on himself. However, none of the victims in the Walmart shooting were listed in his note, police said. Additionally, the gunman had no criminal history.

When asked if Bing had ever complained about his colleagues, the company said there is nothing that can justify taking innocent lives. "Our focus continues to be on the families who are grieving and supporting our associates through this difficult time," a spokesperson for the retailer said about the Walmart shooting. News of the note broke as police continue to search for a motive. Two employees remained hospitalized, one in critical condition, CNN Business reports.

"Today we are focused only on those hurt by Tuesday's tragic event," Chesapeake officials said last week. "But the police investigation continues." The victims of the Walmart shooting include Randy Blevins, Lorenzo Gamble, Tyneka Johnson, Brian Pendleton, and Kellie Pyle. The city named Fernando Chavez-Barron as the previously unidentified 16-year-old victim. This week, city council leaders will hold a special meeting to confirm an emergency declaration that will free up money to support recovery.

A vigil for the victims of the Walmart shooting will be held on November 28th, at City Park in Chesapeake. Sadly, the tragic incident marks yet another mass shooting in a place traditionally seen as safe. Just 170 miles west of Chesapeake, a 22-year-old student at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville opened fire on fellow students, killing three on a bus returning from a field trip to Washington, DC, CNN reports.

A few weeks before the Walmart shooting a 22-year-old shot and killed five people at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs. A further 19 people were injured, authorities said. The United States has suffered more than 600 mass shootings in 2022, according to the Gun Violence Archive. The non-profit describes mass shootings as those in which four or more people are shot, not including the assailant.
