TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Crews rescued 27 students after a Marana Unified School District bus got trapped on a flooded street on Friday, Aug. 19.

The Marana USD said the students were from Picture Rocks Elementary and everyone is safe following the incident.

Marana USD said the bus got stuck in flowing water at a bus stop near Ina and Sandario roads. The bus began leaning in the current, so the driver called for help.

“The driver acted quickly and contacted MUSD transportation, who called law enforcement for support,” Marana USD said in a release.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said deputies and crews from the Picture Rocks Fire District conducted the rescue.

A second school bus was nearby and pulled over to help. The students were rescued and transported to Marana High, where they were picked up by the parents.

“We thank our drivers for acting quickly and following appropriate safety protocol in the situation,” Marana USD said.
