“I actually got to deliver a couple of these beds about a week ago to two kids whose dad had passed away. That was a really cool experience. I know that it’s having a significant impact and it’s contributing to solving a big problem,” LaRochelle said.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace builds beds for children who don't have their own. Its leaders estimate about 2,000 children in Hillsborough County don't have beds of their own.

“What we do is we walk into a household where in many cases when we leave the only furniture they have in their apartments are the beds and so our mission is to get at least the beds into these homes for these families,” David Sodders, president of Sleep in Heavenly Peace of Hillsborough County, said.

Together, LaRochelle and his group of volunteers built five bunk beds.
