BELLE HAVEN, VA — An Alexandria woman is $1 million richer after scoring a top prize in the Virginia New Year’s Millionaire Raffle.

Carol Ketrick bought one of the four top prize winning tickets in the special new year's game. Tickets for this lottery game were limited; 500,000 tickets were sold across Virginia from Nov. 2 to Dec. 21.

It was a snowy Monday when Ketrick found out she won. She was feeling down that day, but her winning ticket changed that, according to the Virginia Lottery.

"It’s a feeling I never expected to have!" Ketrick told the Virginia Lottery upon claiming her prize.

The winning ticket came from the Safeway at the Belle View Shopping Center, 1624 Belle View Boulevard, Alexandria. The other three top prize tickets in the New Year's Millionaire Raffle came from Chesapeake, Stuarts Draft and Virginia Beach. Six other tickets from Goode, Hampton, Henrico, Martinsville, Mattaponi and Winchester each won $100,000. Another 500 tickets each won $500.

Ketrick and her husband have no immediate plans for the winnings. There is a chance they could take a trip to Italy that's been on her bucket list.
