Former President Obama this week visited the families of wounded veterans staying with the Fisher House network in Bethesda, Md., hand-delivering cookies.

The organization, which describes itself as best known "for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans' families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment," shared photos of the visit on Twitter on Friday.

Obama also tweeted about the visit Thursday afternoon, writing: "The families of our wounded warriors don't often get a lot of fanfare, but they're serving and sacrificing right alongside their loved ones."

The Dog Tag Bakery in Georgetown, where Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden were photographed having lunch last year, shared its excitement on Twitter for its involvement in the visit.

"Thrilled to play a small part in this amazing day at the Bethesda Fisher House!" tweeted the bakery, which is operated by Dog Tag Inc., a nonprofit organization that helps veterans transition into civilian life.
