Ohio reports 1,358 new cases of coronavirus, four more deaths: Saturday update

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Confirmed and probable coronavirus cases have increased 1,385 more, bringing the total number to 64,214, according to the Ohio Department of Health on Saturday.

The state reported, on Friday, the highest number of new cases since the outbreak began in Ohio.

Before that, the highest number of new cases in one day came on April 19 with 1,380 in the wake of heavy testing in prisons.

Twelve counties hit hard by the virus are under a mask requirement, but there is no statewide mask mandate.

The number of deaths increased from Friday by four to 3,036.

More than 12 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with having the novel coronavirus and more than 560,000 have died from it.

More than 3 million people in the United States have or had the virus with more than 130,000 who have died.
