Handmade reminders of Vermont an northern New York are on display in the White House.

Students from school districts in each state were asked to design ornaments for the annual decorating of the executive mansion this holiday season. Some of the ornaments from our region are taking center stage in the décor — being placed on the "America The Beautiful Tree" in the Blue Room.

The tree bears the name of this year's White House theme, announced by First Lady Melania Trump last week.

Many students from Vermont's Milton Town School District picked staples of the Green Mountain State for their ornaments. Art from 12-year-old Jayda and 11-year-olds Nataliya and Maddison feature maple syrup, foliage, a mountain range and even a Holstein cow.

Students in Plattsburgh are also represented in the White House displays. Champlain Valley Educational Services in Plattsburgh was tapped to send some of their best artwork to the nation's capital.

Among them was an Eastern Bluebird — the official bird of the state — created by 11-year-old Brodie. It also hangs on the "America The Beautiful Tree" in the Blue Room.
