Mittye P. Locke Elementary School in New Port Richey is getting a new leader, just two months after the School Board approved the permanent placement of the previous one.

Jennifer Jaworski, an assistant principal at Chasco Elementary, has been named to take over Mittye P. Locke, which not so long ago faced the prospect of being closed down until parents, staff members and community leaders protested.

Jaworski, 40, has worked for the school district since 2008.

She is set to replace Cynthia Bauman, who took over the principal’s post in 2018 on an interim basis, and was handed the job full-time in early October. She had been the school’s assistant principal, and was placed in charge temporarily after Adam Wolin accepted a transfer to Trinity Elementary.

District officials forgot to formalize Bauman’s appointment until a year later. Soon after that, though, her husband accepted a new job outside Pasco County, and Bauman submitted her resignation.

Jaworski’s promotion comes before the School Board for consideration on Tuesday.
