Some schools in the Rocklin Unified School District are undergoing additional cleaning Wednesday as a precautionary measure against the novel coronavirus.
The cleaning is being done in response to new information about three firefighters who may have been exposed to the first person to die of COVID-19 in Placer County.
Those firefighters have family members who are students and staff members in the Rocklin school district.
As a result, the district is taking precautionary measures to clean the following schools:
- Rocklin High School
- Granite Oaks Middle School
- Parker Whitney Elementary School
- Sunset Ranch Elementary School
"We started working with Placer County Public Health officials immediately who informed us there is no threat to our students or staff," the school district said in an email to families. "Also, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) maintains that family members do not need to stay at home unless patients being monitored test positive for COVID-19 or they become symptomatic."
Placer County Health Department officials have no immediate plans at this time to close schools.
