Rep. Rashida Tlaib says she's done with police in the United States.

The Michigan Democrat, a member of the liberal "Squad" who in the past voiced support of defunding law enforcement, called policing "racist" in a Monday tweet following the Sunday police-involved fatal shooting of a 20-year-old black man in Minnesota.

"It wasn't an accident. Policing in our country is inherently & intentionally racist," she said. "Daunte Wright was met with aggression & violence. I am done with those who condone government funded murder. No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. It can't be reformed."

Tlaib sent the tweet as people gathered for a second night of protests in Brooklyn Center in response to the fatal police shooting of Wright, 20, during a traffic stop. The officer who shot and killed Wright, identified by police as Kim Potter, shot her handgun when she meant to use a Taser in what authorities have dubbed an "accidental" shooting.

Following the death of George Floyd last summer, Tlaib announced her support for legislation called the BREATHE Act. The bill, which has yet to be introduced, would divest federal money from federal law enforcement entities, close federal detention centers, and incentivize the closure of state prisons, among a host of other things, according to the project's website.

"We must invest in a new vision of public safety," she said in a July 7 tweet. "Today, I am proud to join the calls coming out of one of the largest movements for justice that my district and our country have ever seen to say unapologetically: I support the #BREATHEAct."

Tlaib's tweet on Monday garnered thousands of "likes" and retweets but also some negative commentary.

"Another way to say I can afford to live in a completely safe neighborhood & I don’t care about those who can not afford to move," responded former congressional candidate Kimberly Klacik.

Republican strategist Frank Luntz said, "This 'no more policing' tweet is getting bookmarked by lots of 2022 campaigns for when Rep. Tlaib claims she actually doesn’t want to abolish the police."

"Congresswoman, I understand your anger & frustration," Joe Walsh, a former GOP congressman and radio host, tweeted. "But respectfully, 'no more policing' and 'no more incarceration' isn’t helpful, isn’t responsible, and like 'defund the police' last year, it will help get Trumpy Republicans elected. Let’s focus on police reform."
