Reported missing, SC teen found dead, struck by a train in Greer

A Greer teen who was reported missing Tuesday was found dead after he had been struck by a train, according to the Greer Police Department.

Logan Jones, 16, went missing around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday near Century Park on Brushy Creek Road near South Buncombe Road. Police officers alerted the public to Jones' disappearance and asked the community's help in locating him.

Jones was considered an endangered missing teen after making threats to harm himself, said Lt. Patrick Fortenberry, a spokesman for the Greer Police Department.

Greer police reported early Wednesday that Jones appeared to have been struck by a Norfolk Southern train around 11 p.m. Tuesday near the Greer Mill community, Fortenberry said.

Logan was a sophomore at Riverside High School, said Beth Brotherton, a spokeswoman for Greenville County Schools. Brotherton said grief counselors were made available to students Wednesday as a response to the death.

The Greenville County Coroner's Office and the Greer Police Department are continuing to investigate .
