San Francisco fireman suffers fatal heart attack on his wedding day

The life of San Francisco firefighter and Army veteran Steven Brantley came to a “tragic and unexpected” this week, following a cardiac arrest on what was to have been his wedding day.

A GoFundMe page set-up to by the SSFD Station 10 says the 51-year-old fireman — a father of six — was planning to marry his fiancé, Jenny, when he collapsed Saturday. CBS News reports that he died several days later, but continued helping others by donating his heart, kidneys and lungs. Brantley’s body was brought to a crematorium Thursday.

That fundraising page says Brantley joined the department as a paramedic in 2008, then became a ladderman in 2011. Nearly $12,000 has been raised to help Brantley’s family.
