Seattle Storm unveil redesigned logo, brand identity

The Seattle Storm on Tuesday unveiled a new logo and brand identity.

The redesigned image features the Space Needle — retained from the old logo — sitting inside a combination of a basketball and the peak of Mount Rainier. The bottom half of the symbol is the basketball, while the top is the mountain peak.

Below the Space Needle in the center is a light green lighting bolt that “evokes the intensity, power, and purpose of the Storm identity both on and off the court,” according to a press release. The primary colors of the original Storm symbol — green, gold and white — were also retained.

The typeface of “Seattle Storm” on the new logo features a thinner font.

Storm guards Sue Bird and Jordin Canada will raise a flag featuring the new logo atop the Space Needle on Wednesday at 2 p.m. PT, per the press release.

A mural celebrating the Storm’s new logo and continued social-justice initiatives will also be installed on the Toulouse Petit building on Mercer and Queen Anne Avenue in Seattle near Climate Pledge Arena, where the Storm will have their home games. The mural was created by artists Mari Shibuya and Zahyr.

The new logo represents the first major redesign since the Storm debuted in 2000.
