The cleanup continues in Shelby County after high winds from the remnants of Hurricane Zeta knocked down trees and power lines.

The Shelby Shores community near Lay Lake was hit hard.

We saw downed power lines throughout the area.

Many residents in this community are relying on generators.

Some are getting by without power.

Linda Waldrop is one of them.

“Well, I have a lot of blankets that I was able to cover up with and keep warm last night. And I’m layered today. Dressed. And peanut butter and bananas are pretty good sandwiches. And then I’ve got tomato sandwiches and tea and Coke,” Waldrop said.

Waldrop said her daughter was bringing a generator to her.

There were lots of downed trees in the neighborhood.

Residents were cutting up trees and moving debris.

Some will have to wait for crews to arrive because the trees are so big.

A large tree damaged Larry Griffin’s tool shed. But that shed saved his house.

“I feel we got lucky. Feel we got lucky. That the tool shed stopped the tree from falling on the house. I feel lucky. Could have been a lot worse? Could have been a lot worse, yeah,” Griffin said.

We saw homes with roof damage. High winds also caused a boathouse to collapse.

There were no injures or deaths. Residents are thankful.

“God is good. He’s taking care of us. Just look at all the damage that’s here. And we have no lives lost. And that is a blessing. That just tells me God is very good and I’m grateful for that,” Waldrop said.

No word on when power will be restored to the neighborhood.
