More people are moving to South Dakota in 2021 than most other states in the country, according to reports from moving companies.

The reports support recent expert and media reports saying Americans are moving to lower-density areas during the pandemic.

South Dakota was recently ranked No. 2 on the list of top moving destinations in 2021, according to the 2021 National Movers Study by United Van Lines, which is a national household goods mover.

69% of moves recorded by the company were inbound rather than outbound. The data showed 307 inbound and 137 outbound in 2021.

In past years, South Dakota ranked fourth in 2020, eighth in 2019 and ninth in 2018 and fifth in 2017.
