A junior high school student in Indiana tested positive for coronavirus on the first day of classes.

Families of students at Greenfield-Central Junior High School were notified Thursday that a pupil infected with the contagious virus had attended school that afternoon, according to the Indy Star, which reported Hoosier State students were last in class in March.

The central Indiana school, roughly 25 miles east of Indianapolis, reportedly isolated the infected student immediately after learning of the positive test from the county health department. Those who were within six feet of the infected child for at least 15 minutes were also notified.

The coronavirus-positive pupil, whose age and gender has not been reported, will have to isolate at home for 10 days in accordance with the school district’s re-opening regulations. Students who were in close proximity to that kid will be asked to quarantine for 14 days.

Greenfield-Central reportedly disinfects its classes and corridors nightly, but plans to give concentrate on the areas where the infected student may have been. Whether or not the student had symptoms is unclear. It’s also not known when that child was tested. Test results are not immediately known.

Indiana, the vice president’s home state, is among the earliest to reopen classrooms during the pandemic.

The president declared on July 6 on Twitter “SCHOOLS MUST OPEN IN THE FALL!!!”
