Sun Prairie bank evacuated after gas leak

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WMTV) - A Sun Prairie bank was evacuated Thursday morning after a natural gas leak.

Around 7:30 a.m., Sun Prairie emergency crews responded to the intersection of North Grand Avenue and Windsor Street for a report of a natural gas leak. Once on the scene, crews discovered that a contractor struck an underground gas line, according to a release.

Sun Prairie police subsequently shut down a section of North Grand Avenue while Sun Prairie Fire and Rescue crews evacuated One Community Bank.—located just 10 feet from the leak.

During evacuation, crews noted high levels of natural gas inside the entryway leading to the lobby of the bank, according to a release.

We Energies responded directly to the scene. They were able to isolate the leak in 30 minutes.
