Tacoma Police investigating fatal collision on Marine View Drive

TACOMA, Wash. – Marine View Drive in Tacoma was shutdown for several hours Saturday afternoon while police investigated a fatal collision.

Tacoma Firefighters say two cars and a semi-truck were involved in the accident. One person died in the accident, and two others were transported to an area hospital, one with serious injuries.

One large dog was also injured in the accident and transported to a local veterinary hospital.

Police say a Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on Marine View Drive at a high rate of speed when it used the turn lane to pass other vehicles. 

The driver of the Nissan then veered back in front a semi truck, lost control, and hit a Kia travelling southbound head on. 

The driver of the Nissan, a 38-year-old male died at the scene. 

The occupants of the Kia, a man and a woman were both transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Their dog, who was also in the car, is doing okay and is with family members until the couple is released from the hospital.
