ROMULUS, Mich. (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are investigating after a crash near Detroit Metro Airport left a man dead early Sunday morning.

Authorities say they responded to reports of a traffic crash around 2:10 a.m. Sunday on the eastbound I-94 ramp to southbound I-275 in Romulus, just west of the airport.

A preliminary investigation determined a 2011 Kia Sorento ran off the roadway to the right and rolled several times.

A 36-year-old Van Buren Township man was ejected from the SUV and killed instantly, police said.

Police have not released the victim's name, as next of kin have not been notified and the investigation is still ongoing.

It was not clear if weather played a role in the crash, after a heavy round of snow moved across Southeast Michigan Saturday morning, leaving nearly seven inches in Romulus. As temperatures heated up throughout the day, snow melted, only to freeze over on the roadways as temps dropped back into the 20s overnight.
