West Palm Beach church hosting egg giveaway

That’s among the largest percentage increase of any U.S. good or service.

Payne Chapel AME Church in West Palm Beach is going to be the place to be on Thursday because they’re giving out what has become the hottest and most expensive commodity for families lately – eggs.

“My wife came home last week, she sat our children down and said y'all are not wasting any more eggs,” the Rev. Odell Watson, the pastor of Payne Chapel AME Church, said.

Watson said his own experience coupled with those of his congregation and community inspired him to host an egg giveaway at the church.

This Thursday, they’ll be handing out 200 dozen cartons of eggs to families who need them, and they won’t even have to get out of their cars.

Resources: Food banks, pantries on the Treasure Coast and in Palm Beach County

Volunteers at the church will hand them a freshly refrigerated carton of eggs and then, they can drive off. The church is purchasing the eggs from various stores.

Watson said it’s important for churches to address their community’s faith needs as well other needs.

“That's what Christ has always done. He rarely just met a spiritual need. A church is here to help the community, to be a light in the community, not just on Sunday morning, but Monday through Saturday. How can we help others so that we can all be better and successful?” Watson said.

The egg giveaway starts at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church at 801 9th Street in West Palm Beach.

There aren’t any restrictions other than one dozen of eggs per family.
