The city of West University Place adopted an ordinance on Monday night that appropriates nearly $45 million for general operations, water & wastewater operations, solid waste operations, debt service, internal services and special revenues for the 2021 fiscal year.

“I want to thank city council for working so hard on this budget,” said Mayor Bob Higley. “I know they put a lot of hard work and time into it.”

Prior to Monday night’s meeting, the city manager and staff discussed details of the appropriates, tax rates, and all other information on the budget at meetings and workshops on September 12, 14, and 21.

The city council also voted to decrease the property tax rate by 4.9 percent to fund the 2021 budget, bringing the property tax rate to $0.294066 per $100 in assessed value.

West U’s adopted tax rate, according to the ordinance, will raise taxes for maintenance and operations on a $100,000 home by approximately $2.79.
