YourSA Best Garden Center Winner: Rainbow Garden Center

Rainbow Garden Center was founded with the idea of bringing high-quality plants that are well suited for the San Antonio and Central Texas area. Evolving into a premier destination for plants and gardening items, Rainbow Garden Center has earned well-deserved recognition as the Best Garden Center in San Antonio in this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards.

Starting with a specialization in xeriscape landscaping and low-water plants, they have grown into a reputation that stands out above the rest. According to second-generation nurseryman Brandon Kirby, “We have over 100 years of collective knowledge that we bring to customers. We want to give them expert advice with an emphasis on local and relevant information. We won’t just give you generalized plant info – we tap into local knowledge to give customers the best experience possible.”

Over the years, customers have also enjoyed various events held at Rainbow Garden Center, but due to COVID, those events have been tabled for now. Instead, they have created a new YouTube channel and established a social media presence that customers can follow to get accurate information to be successful in their gardening endeavors.

Rainbow Garden Center continues to be a family business even amid a generational change. Current partners are considering retirement, so Kirby’s generation is getting trained. “When you walk in, you’re going to find plants you’ve never seen or heard of before, and there’s going to be someone that knows how you can be successful for that item. We want to keep that going and continue to grow in the future.”
