Thunderstorms, Humidity Expected Saturday
Showers and thunderstorms are expected in the D.C. area later in the day and into the evening Saturday.
Storm Team4 Meteorologist Lauryn Ricketts says the storms will be strong to severe. Rain chances will increase as the day goes on with a 30% chance before 4 p.m. and a 60% chance after.
Until the storms roll through, temperatures will reach the upper 80s. The humidity levels will bring the heat index up into the 90s.
In the month of July, 28 days reached 90° or higher in the D.C. area.
The biggest concerns with the thunderstorms are the damaging winds and heavy rains. The chance for any severe weather will be south and west of the region.
Sunday will bring more humidity and higher temperatures. The heat index will reach at least 100°. There will be a chance for additional rain, but only in select areas.
Storm Team4 will be keeping a close eye on Hurricane Isaias, currently a category 1 storm. This storm may bring the capital region some rain late Monday into Tuesday.
