Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was confronted by an anti-war protester on Wednesday who accused her of voting to start a “nuclear war” in Russia.

As Ocasio-Cortez hosted a Q&A portion at a town hall event, a protester began yelling at the Democratic lawmaker for her support of sending aid to Ukraine as its military fends off an invasion from Russia.

“None of this matters unless there’s a nuclear war, which you voted to send arms and weapons to Ukraine,” the protester said, according to a video posted on social media. “You ran as an outsider, yet you’ve been voting to start this war in Ukraine. You’re voting to start a third nuclear war with Russia and China. Why are you playing with the lives of American citizens?”

The New York Democrat voted in favor of sending $40 billion in military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine in early May. That bill passed the House with a 368-57 vote.

Ocasio-Cortez has also introduced legislation seeking to provide debt relief to Ukrainians and coordinate debt payments amid the war.

“As Ukraine fights against the Russian invasion, we have a moral obligation to assist any way we can,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a tweet in March. “The Ukraine Comprehensive Debt Payment Relief Act would work to support the immediate suspension of Ukraine’s debt payments, help coordinate comprehensive debt relief, and more.”

Another protester then called on Ocasio-Cortez to denounce the Democratic Party, referring to former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who announced earlier this week she would be leaving the party she termed “an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness.”

“Tulsi Gabbard has shown guts where you’ve shown cowardice,” the second protester said. “I believed in you, and you became the very thing you sought to fight against.”

The Washington Examiner contacted Ocasio-Cortez’s office for comment but did not receive a response.
