From one superhero to another — a happy ending after a Maine child's bike is stolen
There's a happy conclusion to the theft of a three-year-old's bike in Rockland on Sunday.
On Thursday, Rockland police announced they were hoping the public could help identify a person seen on surveillance photos allegedly stealing a child's Spiderman bike while the child was inside the store with his mother.

According to the department's Facebook post, police say a "superhero" who wanted to stay anonymous dropped off a brand-new Spiderman bicycle, matching helmet and bike lock for the young boy.
"The hero wanted nothing in return, but in speaking to one of our officers, we learned a little about her own recent struggles that made this gesture even more heartfelt," the post says.
Officials say the woman lived in Oxford County and was unfortunately forced to choose between paying her rent or car payment. "Not wanting to default on the car loan, she is now currently unhoused and living out of her vehicle."
Rockland Police says, undeterred by her financial situation, the woman bought the bike, helmet and lock at a local Walmart and drove from Oxford County to Rockland. She told Rockland police that once the clerk heard what she was doing, they gave her money to help pay for tolls on the long drive.
After hearing the heartwarming story, the Mid-Coast Recovery Coalition is now collecting funds for those who want to help the superhero. Those who are interested in donating should reach out to Mid-Coast Recovery at iain@midcoastrecovery.org.
Incredibly, Rockland police say other superheroes have stepped forward. Several people have reached out to say they had ordered replacement bikes as well, to be shipped to the department and distributed to families in need.
"We thought it was important to share this heartwarming outcome with everyone and we are so lucky to live in such a wonderful community and state," department officials wrote.
