Pentagon: 8,500 US troops on 'higher alert' amid Russia-Ukraine tensions
Pentagon press secretary John Kirby says that US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has placed 8,500 troops on 'heightened preparedness to deploy' to support NATO in the event that Russia invaded Ukraine and emphasized that no US forces have been deployed.
