Putin allies threaten to attack Tower Bridge with Kalibr cruise missile

Vladimir Putin’s propagandists have once again threatened to attack Britain, this time warning of missile attacks on Tower Bridge and the use of nuclear weapons against British troops assisting Nato in Estonia.

The threats are the latest outpouring of ant-Western bile broadcast from state TV in Moscow as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues to falter.

Senior MP Oleg Morozov claimed that Boris Johnson was plotting with Kyiv to explode Putin’s vanity project bridge which links the annexed Crimea to the Russian mainland.

Last week Ukrainian special forces destroyed an airbase in Crimea which sent shockwaves rippling through Putin’s top brass as many of them began to fear more retaliatory strikes from their neighbours.

Morozov claimed Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko had discussed a supposed plot to destroy the bridge with the British.

‘The Crimean bridge from a military strategic view is similar to Tower Bridge in London,’ he said.

‘If the UK is discussing a Crimean bridge attack with Ukraine, why don’t we discuss using Kalibr missiles to attack Tower Bridge in return?’

Propagandist TV anchor Yevgeny Popov, also an MP, agreed with his guest and colleague, adding that ‘for a complete analogy’ it should involve Russia seeking help from a third country to knock out Tower Bridge.

‘I should discuss a Tower bridge attack with the Minister of Defence in China,’ said the close Putin ally.

Morozov replied: ‘Yes…all the British media would go crazy then.

‘They would say that Kremlin propagandist Popov is discussing a hit on central London with a Chinese minister.’

Elsewhere in the Russian media landscape, reserve colonel Igor Korotchenko – editor-in-chief of Russia’s National Defence magazine – aimed his sights at Western forces guarding the Baltic states from similar Russian invasions as unleashed in Ukraine.

UK forces are currently stationed in Estonia.

He urged the use of tactical nuclear weapons if Russia feels threatened, even though NATO is a defensive alliance, dedicated to preventing attacks on its member states.

‘Wherever there are American, British, NATO garrisons, bases, where weapon systems are deployed threatening us, aimed at St Petersburg, Kaliningrad, these are legal targets,” said the bellicose Korotchenko.

‘I repeat, legal targets.

‘And any moment when NATO is ready for aggression or starts the aggression — and we cannot rule out any options now — after being openly threatened.”

He alleged: ‘These are legal targets for Russia’s tactical nuclear strikes on NATO bases and deployed groups which will be in Sweden, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland and other countries.

‘Our hands should be completely untied for quick and decisive actions in response….

‘You threaten us, you want to strike us, we warn you.

‘If you try, nothing will be left of you.

‘I won’t talk about radioactive ashes…..but wait for a response that you are guaranteed to receive instantly and without any hesitation.’

‘I’ll repeat once again, in the circumstances of the disparity of NATO, including in the Baltic, restraining the Alliance after all this wave of political and military threats to our country, we can only and exclusively [base out actions] on tactical nuclear weapons…which should become a weapon on the battlefield.

‘It doesn’t mean that we are threatening someone with a strike on Helsinki or Tallinn, no, we are not threatening and will not threaten the civilian population of any NATO country.”

But the same was not the case with British, US and other NATIO military bases in these countries, he said.
