As the primary elections came to a close Tuesday for D.C., 7News learned that thousands of votes had still not been counted, and D.C. Board of Elections officials acknowledge the possibility that it could change the projected election winners as some races are still tight.

D.C. Board of Elections said workers picked up the drop boxes after the polls closed Tuesday evening and didn't have time to process them that day. Election workers, instead, began processing them Wednesday and told 7News that they may have results as soon as Thursday.

Thursday afternoon, there were about 30,000 votes that are still being counted out of the 90,000 already counted, D.C. BOE said. By Friday morning, BOE officials said they still had 13,000 more ballots to count and there is still no word on when they will be finished counting them.

The BOE emphasized that the count could be "significant."

According to the latest polls, it appears nothing really changed in the citywide races except a close race between Oye Owolewa and Linda Gray for D.C. Shadow Representative. As of Friday, it appears Owolewa won with the new numbers counted. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser's percentage only went down a fraction as a result of the newly counted ballots.
