1775: American forces defeated in the Battle of Bunker Hill

In the early stages of the Revolutionary War, British forces engaged the Americans at a fortified position on Breed’s Hill in Charlestown, Massachusetts, U.S. The defenders, the colonists, were beaten, but not without inflicting severe casualties on the British forces which boosted their morale for a continued struggle.
