The U.S. Department of Defense announced Wednesday a new military aid package to Kiev valued at $1.1 billion (1.13 billion euros) aimed at enabling Ukraine to "manufacture and provide new weapons" to its Armed Forces as part of the war against Russia.

"It represents a multi-year investment in critical capabilities," the Pentagon said in a statement, adding that it will serve Ukrainian Armed Forces that "continue to defend Ukraine's sovereignty and territory against Russian aggression."

The package includes 18 high-mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS) and associated munitions, as well as 150 high-mobility armored vehicles, 150 tactical weapons towing vehicles, 40 trucks and 80 heavy equipment transport trailers.

It also incorporates two drone radars, 20 multi-mission radars, unmanned aerial systems, tactical secure communications systems, as well as surveillance and optical sense systems, an explosive ordnance disposal team, and bulletproof vests and other field equipment.

The Pentagon said in a statement, the United States has provided $16.9 billion in security assistance to Kiev since January 2021, including more than $16.2 billion since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24.
