When Quincey was 3 years old, his father, Jerome, was murdered. When he was 19, his mother, Patricia, was convicted of murdering his father and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. “It was very hard watching my mom serve this life sentence,” Quincey says. “I only went to visit my mom three or four times while she was incarcerated. Over the years, my mom wrote to me regularly, and I found it just emotionally draining and impossible to even read the letters.” Quincey says his mom’s conviction made him feel distant from his siblings.
