Tiger Woods made his Open Championship debut at St. Andrews in 1995. He went on to become the youngest golfer ever to complete a career grand slam five years later. Woods won the Open again at St. Andrews in 2005, but missed the cut in his last appearance at the Old Course in 2015. Woods will begin his quest for another title when he takes part in the 2022 Open Championship beginning on Thursday. He will play alongside Max Homa and U.S. Open winner Matthew Fitzpatrick, as the trio is set to tee off at 9:59 a.m. ET in the first round of the 2022 British Open.

Woods is a 60-1 long shot in the 2022 Open Championship odds at Caesars Sportsbook. Should you back him with your 2022 Open Championship best bets? Before locking in your 2022 Open Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine's proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, it's up almost $9,600 on its best bets since that point, nailing tournament after tournament.

At the 2022 Masters, McClure's model was all over Scottie Scheffler's first career major championship victory heading into the weekend. The model also nailed Tiger Woods' exact finishing position at Augusta National before the tournament started (47th). In addition, McClure's best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright at the 2021 Open Championship, even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot.

This same model has also nailed a whopping eight majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2022 Open Championship field is taking shape, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected 2022 Open Championship leaderboard.

Top 2022 Open Championship predictions

One huge shocker the model is calling for at the Open Championship 2022: Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 ranked player in the world and one of the top favorites, stumbles at St. Andrews and barely cracks the top five. World No. 1s have not performed well at Open Championships over the past decade, with Brooks Koepka's fourth-place finish in 2019 being the best result for a top-ranked player since 2013. Scheffler does not have much experience playing at the Open Championship, as he tied for eighth in his debut last year.

The 25-year-old struggled in his tune-up tournament last week, missing the cut at the Genesis Scottish Open. He also missed the cut at the PGA Championship, so he has certainly cooled off since his red-hot start to the season. SportsLine's model does not think he is worth backing at short Open Championship 2022 odds this week, especially given his lack of experience at this iconic course.

The model has also revealed where Tiger Woods will finish in the Open Championship 2022. Woods has not played in a tournament since withdrawing after the third round of the PGA Championship in May. He skipped the U.S. Open last month to give his body time to recover before trying to win at St. Andrews for the third time.

Woods is a 15-time major champion, so it is difficult to count him out when he chooses to play in a tournament. His 2022 campaign has not resembled his former self, but can he turn his game around at a familiar course this weekend? The model just locked in its Tiger Woods British Open picks here.

How to make 2022 Open Championship picks

The model is also targeting four golfers with odds of 22-1 or longer who will make surprising runs. Anyone who backs these long shots could hit it big. You can only see them here.
