Bridgestone Senior Players Championship field announced for tournament in Akron
AKRON, Ohio – The field for the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship includes defending champion Steve Stricker along with a who’s who among professional golfers.
The 80-player field is set to compete Thursday to Sunday, July 7-10, at Firestone Country Club in Akron.
Seven World Golf Hall of Fame members are in the field:
• Fred Couples, 2011 champion;
• Ernie Els;
• Retief Goosen, who won the first playing of the event at Firestone’s South Course in 2019;
• Bernhard Langer, champion in 2014, 2015 and 2016;
• Davis Love III;
• Colin Montgomerie; and
• Vijay Singh, 2018 champion.
The Bridgestone Senior Players is the fourth of five majors on PGA Tour Champions this year. Stricker (Regions Tradition), Steven Alker (KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship) and Padraig Harrington (U.S. Senior Open) won the first three major titles. The season’s final major, The Senior Open Championship, will be Thursday to Sunday, July 21-24, at Gleneagles in Scotland.
The 1997 Open champion Justin Leonard — who turned 50, the senior-eligibility age, on June 15 — is making his PGA Tour Champions debut at Firestone.
Winner of this year’s Bridgestone Senior Players tournament will receive an exemption into the 2023 Players Championship.
