Rory McIlroy joins Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus in elite group after Players win

There was just one man standing after a wild final round of The Players Championship on Sunday at TPC Sawgrass - Rory McIlroy.

The former No. 1 player in the world, who has fallen short in a number of events this season, was able to par the difficult 18th hole to win his first Players title, beating 48-year-old Jim Furyk by one stroke.

McIlroy, who's 29, struggled early in his round Sunday, similar to what he did Saturday, before turning it around and birding four holes on the back nine to jump ahead of a very crowded leaderboard.

The win put him in an elite group with Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus, the two greatest golfers to ever play the game:

That's a pretty darn impressive accomplishment for McIlroy, who will be looking to win his first Masters in a few weeks to wrap up a career slam.

After Sunday's great final round I can't wait for the Masters. And I'm guessing McIlroy feels the same.
