How to stream Major League Baseball online, without cable in 2023

Syracuse.com 3/28/2023 Ben Axelson, syracuse.com

The 2023 Major League Baseball season opens on Thursday, March 30th, and as more and more fans cut the cord in favor of streaming, MLB continues to be one of the more complicated sports to stream.

Stream the most MLB games on fuboTV (free trial).

While more and more pro leagues are moving towards all-access streaming like MLS on Apple TV+ or the NFL’s own in-house NFL Plus service, Major League Baseball is still primarily broadcast in-market on regional TV stations, like YES Network or NESN.

Unfortunately, there’s no one-stop shop for the fan that wants to watch all 162 games in their favorite team’s season, because there are also nationally televised games that air on a variety of networks, including ESPN, FS1, FOX and more. Beyond that, there are select games that will air on Apple TV+ and even Peacock.

We’ve got you covered, however, with this guide to which streaming services offer the most MLB access, so you can cut the cord, and still get all the baseball you want on all your devices.

fuboTV (free trial)

fuboTV is the best choice for baseball fans, especially because they’ve recently added MLB.TV as a $24.99 per month add-on. It carries nearly every regional sports network, except for Yankees, Orioles, Nationals, or Dodgers networks, in its basic package, and also has FOX coverage in most of the country. You can check your local channel availability here.

fuboTV starts cheaper than DirecTV Stream, at $74.99 per month, but it will also charge a regional sports fee up to $13.99. Once you add the MLB.TV, you’ll also get access to every live, out-of-market MLB game all season long, making fubo as close to a one-stop-shop as you can get for the MLB fan who wants to watch as many games as possible.

“With today’s MLB.TV partnership, fubo now offers the most baseball coverage of any streaming company, on top of our already leading position for local sports coverage and our robust NFL and college sports packages,” said David Gandler, co-founder and CEO of fuboTV in a statement.

fuboTV can be streamed on most app-enabled devices like Android, iOS, Roku and Fire TV.

DirecTV Stream (free trial)

DirecTV Stream is the next best choice for cord cutters who want to stream the MLB. The service currently carries the regional sports network for every MLB team except for the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadephia Phillies. It also carries all the channels for nationally-televised games.

You will need to subscribe at the $99.99 per month Choice level or higher for access to regional sports networks.

You can stream DirecTV Stream on most app-enabled devices.

Sling (half off first month)

Right up front, Sling is not a great choice for MLB fans, because it doesn’t carry regional sports networks. But, if you’re looking to save on your monthly TV streaming subscription, it’s a great choice. Sling is only $40 per month (and half off the first month), and carries FS1, ESPN, TBS and MLB Network for all your nationally-televised games.

Sling comes with DVR, like the services above, and is accessible on most smart devices.

Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV

These streaming services are generally worse options than those above, for MLB anyway. They are missing regional networks for the A’s, Giants, Phillies, Mets, and White Sox, but they do offer FOX in most markets, as well as ESPN, TBS and FS1 for nationally televised games.

Apple TV+

Apple TV+ will be airing 2 games every Friday night throughout the 2023 season. You can find a schedule of announced games on Apple TV+ here.

Peacock

Peacock is not really an MLB-friendly streaming service, but the service will air 19 Sunday morning baseball games this season starting in May. If you have Peacock already, it’s a nice perk.
