Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Jose Ramos is set to return to Spring Training this week after Team Panama was eliminated from the 2023 World Baseball Classic via tiebreakers.

Panama was part of Pool A, which saw all five teams finish with a 2-2 record. Cuba and Italy ultimately advanced to the WBC quarterfinals after allowing the fewest runs per defensive out recorded.

Cuba yielded 15 runs in its four games and recorded 108 outs, resulting in a ratio of .139 runs allowed/outs recorded. Italy gave up 17 runs in its four games and recorded 108 outs, resulting in a ratio of .157 runs allowed/outs recorded. Both ratios were the lowest in Pool A.

Ramos was one of Panama’s most productive hitters as he batted .313/.353/.500 with one home run and one RBI in 16 at-bats. The 22-year-old has been part of the Dodgers organization since 2018, when the team signed him as an amateur free agent.

He hit a combined .249/.339/.479 with 22 doubles, 25 home runs and 97 RBI while playing for the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and High-A Great Lakes last season.

In addition to Ramos, Julio Urías, David Peralta and Trayce Thompson have enjoyed productive showings in the World Baseball Classic.

Jose Ramos earned Arizona Fall League honors

Ramos was one of seven Dodgers prospects who went on to play for the Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League last year. He batted .275/.326/.463 with four doubles, one triple, three home runs and 16 RBI in 89 plate appearances (20 games).

Ramos earned Arizona Fall League Players of the Week honors for Week 6 and capped off his dominant run by hitting a solo shot in the AFL Championship Game.
