PHILADELPHIA - Oscar Mercado, we hardly knew ‘ya.

On Monday, the Phillies claimed 27-year-old outfielder Oscar Mercado off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians and added him to the active roster on Tuesday.

After being with the Phillies for three games against the Atlanta Braves - and striking out in his only at-bat - Mercado was designated for assignment to make room for Bailey Falter, who was replacing injured pitcher Zach Eflin in the rotation, on Friday.

On Sunday, Mercado was claimed off waivers again - by the Guardians.

Mercado is a career .234 hitter with 26 home runs and 94 RBI. This season, he is hitting .200 in 115 at-bats with four home runs, 17 runs scored and 16 RBI.

He had spent his whole four-year major-league career with Cleveland prior to being claimed by the Phillies.

Even with Bryce Harper’s fractured thumb, the Phillies have several internal options in the outfield. Their current roster includes June Player of the Month Kyle Schwarber, Nick Castellanos, Mickey Moniak, Odubel Herrera and Matt Vierling as primarily outfielders.

The Phillies split the first two games of a weekend series against St. Louis - one of the teams they are chasing in the National wild card race - and were preparing to face the Cardinals in the rubber game on Sunday Night Baseball.

The Phillies started the day at 41-38, 2 1/2 games out of a playoff spot.
