For now.

This is the second year Cole is arbitration-eligible, and the two parties were able to come together and reach an agreement. He's signed a one-year, $6.75 million deal for the upcoming season.

Of course, the Pirates may not be the ones having to pick up the tab, as there's strong reason to believe Cole could be part of a new franchise in the coming days or weeks. Don't be surprised if that franchise ends up being the Houston Astros or New York Yankees.

In his first year of arbitration eligibility last year, the Pirates' frontline starter earned $3.75 million. He got a $3 million raise this year after mixed results on the mound over the 2017 campaign, posting a 12-12 record with a 4.26 ERA over 33 starts.
