After a dramatic 6-5 win over the Mets on Wednesday night, the Red Sox will conclude their four-game home-and-home series against New York on Thursday at Citi Field. Lefty Martin Perez is on the mound against Mets southpaw Steven Matz.

Rafael Devers is out of the lineup for Boston against Matz, with Jose Peraza leading off and playing third base. For Devers, it’s a scheduled day off after he started Boston’s first six games.

“Coming into camp, in that short camp and trying to think about playing him 10 (games) in a row, that’s not fair to him,” said manager Ron Roenicke. “It’s a day off for him. I talked to him a while ago and told him he was going to get one somewhere. I thought today was pretty good.”

Jackie Bradley Jr. and Mitch Moreland are also sitting. Kevin Pillar is in center and batting second and rookie Jonathan Arauz is making his first major-league start at second base.

The Red Sox will stay in New York for a three-game series against the Yankees after wrapping things up with the Mets.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“As a catcher, he’s really got to be up there at the top at what they do and the offensive part. I know (Buster) Posey has always been one of those guys and (J.T.) Realmuto is one of those guys. And it used to be (Yadier) Molina. So Vazquez has put himself in a category with the best catchers. Defensively we know he does a good job. Offensively, last year, I thought he really stepped it up, showed us what he can do and he’s looking right now like he’s going to be that type of player again.” -- Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke on Christian Vazquez
