Last year, Aaron Judge made history by hitting 62 home runs in a season.

In doing so, the New York Yankees outfielder broke the single season American League home run record that had previously been set by former Yankee Roger Maris.

And Maris’ son, Roger Maris Jr., has something to remind everyone as the Yankees prepare for spring training and the 2023 season: Judge probably won’t be hitting 62 home runs again, and that’s okay.

Per Dan Martin of The New York Post:

“Dad realized he was never gonna do what he did in 1961 again. That year was an anomaly. I think Aaron realizes that, too. It’s not that he’s not capable of doing it, but you have to understand it was an amazing year and you can’t go to the park expecting to hit home runs ... [1961] took a lot out of him. Not just the season, but when it ended, he went through what Judge has gone through. There’s a lot of demands on your time, and then you turn around and have to get started again.’’

In addition to breaking Maris’ record, Judge was named the 2022 American League MVP and contended for the Triple Crown. After the season, the Yankees re-signed their superstar slugger to a record-setting nine-year, $360 million contract and named him the 16th captain in the club’s history.
