OMAHA, Neb. — Vanderbilt's Austin Martin hit the first pitch he saw out of the ball park in the College World Series Sunday.

It was the first lead-off home run hit in the College World Series since June 17, 2015, when Florida's Harrison Bader did it against Miami.

In the bottom of the first inning, Martin turned on the first pitch from Louisville left-hander Reid Detmers, the ACC Pitcher of the Year, and drove it about 390 feet to left field. It was Martin's ninth home run of the season.

Martin, a sophomore, was an All-American and SEC batting champion this season, entering the College World Series with a .410 batting average. It was the 12th homer allowed by Detmers in 18 starts this season.
